parkrun appeared recently on BBC tv hosted by Dame Kelly Holmes, the Olympic, running champion. In addition to the story of parkrun, Dame Kelly introduced two 'newbies': the one wanted to lose weight and the other to regain her 'peace of mind'.
To take part you can run, jog walk, push your baby in a pushchair, or let your dog drag you along. But we will definitely walk at our own pace and try to complete the walk in one hour. Wear trainers or any rubber-soled shoes.
This is a chance to try out parkrun; you might find it is just what the doctor ordered. If you get a taste for it there are numerous parkruns in Kent and all over Britain (and elsewhere). Each course is different but every parkrun is 5k (3.1 miles) in length and run on a Saturday at 9 am. Each participant can register for a barcode to record his or her progress.
